Fort Madison Family YMCA Announces Major Fitness Center Upgrade

Fort Madison, IA – The Fort Madison Family YMCA will soon begin a major upgrade to its Wellness Center, with several new pieces of cardio and strength equipment expected to arrive within the next five to six weeks.

This project will replace a large portion of the current equipment, including three brand new treadmills, all Nautilus machines in the side room, as well as new dumbbells, racks, bars, and other free weight equipment. The Wellness Center’s layout will also be updated to create additional workout space, improve the flow, and help reduce wait times during busy hours. Overall, the refresh is designed to upgrade equipment that has served members for decades, enhance the overall workout experience, and expand the variety of training options available to Fort Madison Family YMCA members.

The upgrade is designed to benefit every member, from those just beginning their fitness journey to seasoned athletes. With improved access to equipment and a more organized layout, members can enjoy a safer, more efficient workout environment that supports a wide range of fitness goals.

“This project is much overdue and a long time coming,” said Ryan Wilson of the Fort Madison Family YMCA. “We owe it to our members and to the new members who will join us in the future to provide an improved wellness experience.”

The equipment upgrade is being made possible through a significant estate gift from the Sandrock Trust, established by longtime community supporters Dr. Austin Sandrock and Carole Wallis-Sandrock. The couple were dedicated supporters of their hometown and Lee County, and their legacy continues to strengthen community organizations and initiatives that promote health, education, and quality of life.

Installation of the new equipment is expected to take place within the next five to six weeks, and updates will be shared with members as the arrival date approaches. For more information about programs and membership at the Fort Madison Family YMCA, visit the YMCA in-person or online at fortmadisony.org, and follow us on social media for updates as the project progresses.
