Blended Learning Certification Opportunities in Fort Madison

Looking for a meaningful summer job that builds leadership skills, responsibility, and confidence? Lifeguarding is more than a job. It is a chance to make a real difference in your community. The Fort Madison YMCA is offering Lifeguarding Blended Learning certification courses in Spring and early Summer 2026, with a special incentive for those who commit to serving locally.

Special Lifeguard Incentive

All participants who commit to working the 2026 Summer Season at the Fort Madison Public Pool will receive a $25 discount on their certification cost.

Who Can Register?

To participate in this course, individuals must be 15 years old by the last day of their selected class session.

What Is Blended Learning?

Blended Learning combines online coursework with in person skills training. Participants must complete the online portion prior to attending the first in person class. Full attendance at all scheduled in person sessions is required to earn certification.


Course Option 1
Spring Session

Pre Test (Choose One)

March 24 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM
March 28 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM

Pre Test Details

The pre test is an in water assessment lasting approximately 20 minutes. Appropriate swimwear is required. Goggles are optional.

Pre Test Requirements

Swim 150 yards, tread water for two minutes without using arms, then swim 150 yards.
Swim 25 yards, dive to retrieve a swim brick, then swim on your back without using arms while carrying the brick back to the starting point.

In Person Class Schedule

April 10 from 4:30 to 9:30 PM
April 11 from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM
April 12 from 12:00 to 8:00 PM

Early Summer Session
